ABOUT MY ART
What inspires me to create
My artistic practice is an ongoing exploration—an unfolding, intertwining tale of my Aboriginal cultures, stories, and lived experiences, alongside the many inspiring and unexpected things that venture into my life. It is deeply rooted in the lands, waters, and people of my Country, and in the great Murray River by which I live. Country is not just a backdrop to my work; it is a living presence, shaping my art, writing, and research.
As a creative, I move fluidly across forms—painting, textiles, digital media, installation, and writing. I see visual and written artforms as inseparable, each complementing and informing the other. Writing is not an addition to my practice but a core element of my storytelling style. Often, the written accompaniments reveal the deeper meanings of my artworks, opening space for audiences to reflect, connect, and interpret.
Exhibitions are central to my practice. They are opportunities to share new works, stories, and moments, and to create immersive installations that invite dialogue. I have presented solo exhibitions across South Australia and collaborated with others on collective journeys. Each exhibition is a rollercoaster of challenges and triumphs, but every twist brings new opportunities to create, connect, and share stories.
My most significant exhibition, Threads, marked a milestone in my journey. It was the culmination of years of working through past trauma and the catalyst for my healing. Threads wove together difficult memories, dreams, and reflections into a vibrant, colourful showcase that confronted darkness while celebrating resilience. Sharing this body of work opened important conversations about trauma and CPTSD, held in safe spaces where audiences could reflect and share their own stories. The embrace of an open-hearted audience was profoundly affirming, strengthening my confidence and deepening my commitment to storytelling as healing.
My practice is not about brilliance—it is about passion, love, and survival. Stories are the bedrock of my being, and sharing them is essential to who I am. My life has been full of adventures, hardships, and love. Each experience—whether joyful or painful—has shaped my art and continues to guide my creative journey.
Looking ahead, I am moving into the space of film and moving images. Film—whether fiction, documentary, animation, or experimental—offers powerful possibilities for storytelling in our times. It is a natural extension of my practice, allowing me to bring art and stories to life in new ways and to reach wider audiences.
My journey continues to evolve, taking unexpected twists and turns. I share reflections and updates through my blog and on Instagram, where my practice unfolds in dialogue with community.
I hope you enjoy my art, and I look forward to continuing this creative journey with you.
